TRICARE Coverage

TRICARE does not include massage therapy as a covered benefit under any plan type. This applies to:

  • TRICARE Prime
  • TRICARE Select
  • TRICARE For Life (retirees 65+)
  • TRICARE Reserve Select
  • TRICARE Young Adult

Massage therapy performed outside the military healthcare system is entirely out of pocket for TRICARE beneficiaries.


VA Whole Health Program

The VA has expanded its Whole Health approach, which takes a more comprehensive view of veteran wellness. Some VA medical centers now offer massage therapy as part of this program:

  • Available at select VA facilities with Whole Health programs
  • Typically requires a recommendation from your VA care team
  • May be limited to certain conditions or a set number of visits
  • No additional cost to enrolled veterans at participating facilities
